Who Is Orenda?

Orenda is an industry-renowned speciality chemical manufacturer that emphasizes safe and minimalistic chemical dosage for pools and spas. As part of their passionate commitment to the pool industry, they have developed the Orenda Calculator — a resource widely trusted by pool professionals across the country. With just a few taps in the Orenda app, you are able to calculate the exact dosage needed to reach your desired LSI balance in any pool!

What is LSI?

The Langelier Saturation Index (LSI) is a measurement of the amount of calcium carbonate in the water. Water can be defined as either corrosive (a low LSI), balanced (adequate LSI), or scale-forming (high LSI).

Water will always attempt to balance itself by either absorbing or releasing the appropriate amount of calcium. This perfect saturation of calcium can be measured as 0.00 LSI. A measurement below -0.30 LSI will cause “etching” along the side of the pool as it erodes in search for calcium carbonate to add to its chemistry. In contrast, a measurement above 0.30 LSI will result in “scaling” as the water releases the excess calcium carbonate.

In order to avoid either etching or scaling, and to keep your pool clean and fresh, it is imperative to manage your LSI throughout the year. Orenda makes this easy by calculating the entered input of a pool’s pH, water temperature, calcium hardness (CH), carbonate alkalinity (CA), cyanotic acid/stabilizer (CYA), and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) to create a formula for restoring the LSI. Simply enter the chemical readings of any body of water to immediately receive instructions on reducing, increasing, or maintaining calcium carbonate levels.

How Does It Work?

For Paythepoolman users, Orenda just got easier! Rather than having to switch between apps, all of the Orenda Calculator app’s features will be right in Paythepoolman Plus. After enabling the optional Orenda add-on, just log your chemicals as normal for a live update of your LSI balance. Once you’re ready to move forward, click “get dosages” to receive your dosage recommendations. But don’t limit yourself to just LSI readings! Utilize our other advanced features such as:
